We said goodbye to our gorgeous hosts: Briggite and Richard, they were superb, he for giving me detailed information re places I asked him about, giving me burners on a stick to find our way home from a sunset, and just being available. Then her, she so genuinely wants to help no matter what it is, and both, were very friendly. We came upon her one day walking Ofra in her favourite part of paradise. It was also ours.
I showed her the sunrise that I had taken photos of recently and she loved them. In one she noticed I had a photo of her friend with her dog. She said that she was over the moon – pun intended, (first picture I took). We talked about her lovely black dog and her gentleness, and this moved once more to the photo I had shown her and the dog that Ofra had recognised and was very close to.
I saw the connection she had to this photo and the obvious delight Ofra had in seeing her Collie friend. So the next morning I asked Briggite if she would like a copy for her friend. She’d gone way ahead of me and asked if she could have one other as well. I said that would be very special hanging on her friend’s wall blown up. She responded by saying very excitedly, “I was thinking room number 5 where you were staying”.
We bade them farewell on their 5 week holiday starting soon, and to our question – where are you going, he shrugged his shoulders but that said it all. They worked in a tough environment and didn’t really care, or had they not had the space to do much with it. We said goodbye to others and it was off to our mountain.
We arrived in Garmisch at the foot of this huge mountain, Zugspitze massif, and I just wanted to see it. It’s huge, I sometimes hear people make comments like “Is that all”? We didn’t have much time to explore but we did. We found out there were two joined towns – Garmisch, closer to Zug and Partenkirchen just a little further. Each has its own river so we found them both and followed them close to the mountain.
Oh, by the way, no-one is allowed on public transport minus a mask so they all wear one. We’re looking forward to tomorrow and getting closer to the big one. And I suppose you’re all getting blogged out because I’m not hearing from many of you. Tell me what you think, and anything you’d like to hear re Germany, or my PD, or anything at all, and if you don’t want it publicised just email me and I will respond.
Hope life is great for all of you
Will
Dear W&&&C,
Not all blogged out at all, – Just working alternate days and driving to Kogarah and back 3 times this week, 3rd time being tomorrow.
It’s thrilling that you can see and walk near the fabulous highest mountain there! So amazing – how could anyone say ‘is that all?’!!
So glad you can see it. It must be awe-inspring to view it from where you’re staying. Sometimes I look at clouds and pretend one or more is a mountain or mountain range, trying to imagine what it would be like to see something really like it, so high and colossal.
And do your walking with sensible precautions (referring to yesterday).
Just keep on blogging!
Your pics are wonderful.
It’s heartwarming that you’ve met many charming people and animals on your journey.
Waiting for a pun here haha.
.
Hi Ruth
You’re a busy person
Thanks for your comments, and it’s great to hear the excitement in your writings
We’ve met some lovely down to earth people and their usually gentle, loving dogs,, I guess they go together
I’m sure you’ll be here til the end, like the other special regulars and the odd new ones, which is great
I can’t think of a pun, but if Narayan reads it, he’s sure to find something
Hi Will
Interesting re people having to wear masks there on public transport. We don’t see many masks being worn here at all. In fact, on the plane coming back from Cairns, we only saw one person with a mask (not us!). Perhaps we’re all becoming blase about it. Yet we have a seven day average of 14 deaths in the last week, so it hasn’t gone by a long shot. Perhaps the Germans are right and we’re wrong in this respect.
Looking back, how has been been for both of you, health wise? I know you’ve mentioned different things along the way, but overall it seems to me you have managed quite well. Is that how you see it. You both have an amazing resilience, so if I asked someone that questions, they’d probably come up with a long list!
Such a delightful building you’ve taken a photo of in this blog. How artistic are they!
What are your plans in the next few days?
With love
Narayan and Janine
Hi Narayan and hello Janine,
Thanks for your large comment as usual
Health is good especially walking, I never get aches pains, tired muscles,, blisters, sore feet.
It’s mostly chroic like thoracic pain but only after 3-4 hours walking, when I’m down on meds I can’t walk fast, I’ve got my AF and low BP under control, otherwise all good.
One more day with the old man Zugspitze, 3 days in Munich, then a day or so with our German friends in Frankfurt then home on 5th
Hope all is well
Talk soon
Your travels seem to be going well and very interesting places. I have been to Garmisch P. Are the houses and shops still decorated with those wonderful children’s stories?
Sorry Stu,
I’m not sure who you are, I know a couple of Stus
Stu from StMarks rd Bill
Hi Stu
Great to hear from you. I saw one or two children’s stories but mostly religious and cultural. I was reading a little about them the other day and it talked of their origins going back 5000 years, it was quite involved.
What were you doing there?
