This is a palace and while it is a shack in comparison to yesterday’s, this neo gothic beauty has that old Indian Raj feel about it. But the jewels in its crown are the eclectic gardens, from the eerie Portuguese cork trees with small ferns growing on the branches through to the succulents of Mexico, and lotus flowers in ponds below the trickling waterfalls. It was a lovely day and a handful of people made it feel even more authentic. A bus ride on narrow, stonewalled lanes (with less room than the Amalfi coast) made it difficult to watch the scenery but I know the undergrowth was so dense we did not need any cloud cover. Back home to our very attentive hosts. We were excited about going to the monk’s caves which he told us about but we need a car, anyone??
