Last stop before Madrid is Toledo even though it’s after. The bus took us through typical Extremadura countryside that I talked about some days ago where poor quality soil gains extra attention through thoughtful land management practices. The small lakes, minimal stock, crop, bush and grass growing rotated to increase soil fertility.

Now it’s a train from Madrid to Toledo. The soil is richer, there are bountiful crops under irrigation from nearby rivers and it is all much greener. Olive trees started to thicken also as the soil is much friendlier. Machinery starts to appear and the mountains we saw the other side of Madrid continue their majesty alongside the train.

We’re in the very busy former capital of Spain, Toledo, on a ridge on a tall narrow street just off the plaza, looking out on this beautiful sunset-lit old city and the bells are telling us it’s 10.00 pm.

A lot of steep walking in Toledo today and we covered most of the city looking for our lodgings. Finally I found three people from Brisbane who directed us straight to it.

Good night.
