An update on our walk through Italy on the via francigena.

We have postponed our walk until September 2016 due to a stress fracture in my left foot. I have also been diagnosed with osteoporosis which means when I say goodbye to my moon boot next week I will concentrate on strengthening the muscles and tendons to get me back on the road to recovery. I will now need an injection twice a year (hardly an issue when I think of my grand niece having to inject herself daily for diabetes) to maintain bone strength and more walking to strengthen the bones. Too much rest causes the bones to soften which makes them more susceptible to breaks. My calcium and vitamin D levels are in ideal shape as is my thyroid which narrows the healing field for my osteoporosis.

This layoff time has allowed me to concentrate on my brain studies, updating my book on our last walk and a small self help book which I will publish only on this blog in the coming weeks. It also allows me to see the effect on my PD symptoms due to lack of walking.

I look forward now to the next two days when I will be attending a seminar by Norman Doidge; giving a talk in a months time to a highly motivated group of walkers on the therapeutic benefits of walking; and writing a range of poetry forms from different cultures.

I will also give weekly updates on my self help book called: ‘Parkinson’s – take control’

Life is good – hope yours is too
