Even though we are up on a hill we are close to Rua (street) Avenida the central avenue that comes down from a hill in the north to the main shopping area and the river Tejo in the south roughly about 4kms. We sit high up about 500 metres to the west of Rua avenida. The immediate city and old suburbs stretch out also about 2kms in front of us to the east and up behind us about 2kms to the west or thereabouts

Today we sidled down to Rua Avenida turned left and wet 1-2 kms through a beautiful park, then back to write a little with Corrie. As it starts to get hotter we become a bit unhappier about going out so more time is spent on writing poetry, reading and preparing a small book I hope to publish on my return. Corrie is helping me get started with some ideas so that is great

We’re off to dinner down towards the river and mix with the locals who are talked of in Barry Hatton’s book as being an aggrieved melancholic people who are sad and resigned about the past, but happy in their sadness. We have seen little evidence of this in our short stay here but we’ll look for some anecdotal evidence tonight which will probably confuse us more
